Description:
Gray-Nicolls Cricket Bat Survey c1979-84 unique file of 'Bat Study' Questionnaires, filled out, signed & returned by many of the world's top batsmen (or in a few cases by family members). A remarkable archive for study and/or publication, giving tremendous personal insights into how these world-class cricketers felt about the most important piece of their equipment. The questions related to: Brands used; Any preferences; preferred handle length; preferred weight; What do you look for in a bat?; and also invited general remarks & observations. The responses were taken into consideration by Gray-Nicolls to create the next generation of bats. The file contains more than 135 signed questionnaires & letters; the respondents including: Sir Donald Bradman, Sir Len Hutton, Allan Border, Colin Cowdrey, Doug Walters, Peter May, Keith Miller, Neil Harvey, Denis Compton, Arthur Morris, Sam Loxton, Bill Lawry, Ron Hamence, Geoff Boycott, David Hookes, Bill Brown, Bill Ponsford, Greg Chappell, Percy Fender, Farokh Engineer, Bill Bowes, Jackie McGlew, Gubby Allen, Ken Barrington, Alec Bedser, R.E.S.Wyatt, Norman Yardley, Cyril Washbrook, Asif Iqbal. The reply on behalf of Joe Darling [34 Tests 1894-1905] includes his signature on piece. Probably the widest ranging survey of it's type ever undertaken.
