Description:
A painted pottery equestrian figure Tang Dynasty the rider sitting upright astride a saddle, with both hands held forward as though clasping the reins, wearing a long gown with wide sleeves and tall hat, the horse standing four square on a plinth, its head raised in alert attitude with well defined features, the mane docked and tail bound, painted in red, black and white pigments, perspex stand, fitted box (3) 37.5 cm high. Provenance: Chak's Gallery, Hong Kong, 4 December 1991 This lot is sold with a Hong Kong Art Craft Merchants Association Ltd. Certificate of Antiquity, dating this figure to the Tang dynasty. Other Notes: Figures of this type were popular during the Tang dynasty and were an essential part of all tomb retinues.
