An Austrian carved and polychrome wooden bird specimen tree, late 19th century the thirty-three painted multi-coloured small birds perched on the naturalistic branches in various poses, the green painted base representing grass with toadstool clusters This tree reflects the enormous interest in ornithology in the latter part of the 19th century generated in part by the theories of Charles Darwin. 158 cm high.
