A Chinese polychrome stucco head of a guardian, Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368). Realistically resolved with a fierce expression and inset glass eyes, the lobes cut deeply, crowned in an elaborate plumed headdress, raised on a rod and plinth base, the head 56 cm tall. Provenance: Acquired Sothebys Melbourne, 1st & 2nd May 2007, lot 215. Ex collection of the New England Regional Museum
