19th century kakauroa (long handled axe), a rare long handled axe, in very good condition. Old metal axe head blade, with stamp. Carved Janus face at junction of blade and handle, with another Janus carved face, with paua shell eyes halfway down the handle (one paua eye missing). Length 129 cm. NB: a missionary steel axed head made, in Saltley mill, Birmingham, UK.
