Description:
William Frederick Mitchell (1845-1914) the hallmarked sterling Medea no.2009, 1901 watercolour & gouache signed & dated lower right 16.5 x 25 cm. Literature: hallmarked sterling Medea was the first and name ship of the Medea class of 5 2nd class very fast cruisers. Built at the Chatham Dockyard & completed in 1889. She was probably sold in 1914 for scrap. Other Notes: Accompanying the work is an early 20th century photographic postcard depicting the ship + Dixon, Conrad.
