A historically interesting N.Z. connected Boer War combination pocket knife and photo presented to 'W. Tubman 1st N.Z.M.R. (by) Major Madocks 1900', this inscription engraved to face plate of the pocket knife with various blades and tools for tending to horses, the vintage black and white photo showing Tubman upon his white horse, his attendant also mounted, both before a crowd and buildings. 15 cm x 200, framed under glass. Note: Capt. Madocks was Royal Artillery attached to the N.Z. Mounted Rifles. Madocks was promoted to the rank of Major after securing a strategic hill with the aid of 60 New Zealanders forcing the retreat of the Boers while leading a bayonet charge, the hill being renamed 'N.Z. Hill'.
