An extremely fine Maori pre-European black basalt toki (adze), Duff Type 1 Variety A, tanged quadrangular form, hammer dressed tang, on overall unusual longitudinal strongly concaved back. Length 217, maximum width 5.3 cm. Reg. Y13263. Note this good example demonstrates strong concave form generally associated with Polynesia examples, rare to see in N.Z. examples.
