An officer's dress sword, the property of Capt. Andrew Douglas Holden Rnzn, Obe, Dsc, Rd (d.1969); toward the end of World War II Holden was the Commanding Officer, HMNZS Matai (minesweeper) & Senior Officer, 25th Minesweeping and Anti-Submarine Flotilla in the South Pacific. With etched polished 79 cm blade by Gieves, the gilt brass hilt with crowned fouled anchor, lion head pommel, wired bound shagreen grip and with attached porteppe. (Cf. lots 112, 161,163)
