Description:
A George III sterling silver wine cooler, depicting scenes of half naked women from the Island of Lesbos or Lemnos, where a race of women killed their menfolk and loved drinking wine, made by London Silversmith, William Hall 1803. One side of the wine cooler has the Arms and Garter of Earl Lonsdale with five rings. The height of the cup is 25.5 cm. The width from handle to handle is 28 cm. The total weight is 3122gms, including the inner silver sleeve, but note, William Hall?s hallmarks are only on the main wine cooler body and the top rim. At some stage, perhaps years later, the original vendor inserted a solid silver sleeve to separate the ice from touching the bottle. This silver ring weighs 582gms, has no hallmarks upon it but it is silver
