Description:
Boxer Rebellion, (1900), the dinner gong which accompanied the Naval Contingent to the Boxer Rebellion. Made of a heavy weapon artillery shell suspended above a wood base, it one of the most interesting of the Trench Art pieces. A plaque on the front reads,' China Victorian Naval Contingent' People in Sydney on 8 August 1900 were patriotically excited! They were witnessing the departure of the Australian Naval Contingent, whose destination was China - there to 'Contribute Aid to the British Portion of An Expedition Which Had As It's Objective, the Restoration of Order and Tranquillity'. 50 cm tall in good condition
