Description:
A Clockwork Orange (1971), a pair of lace-up working boots of dark brown leather, both boots inscribed inside in blue ballpoint pen with the initials M.M., the right boot additionally ink-stamped inside K-0713, the left boot additionally inscribed in blue ballpoint pen J. Marcus - worn by James Marcus as Georgie, one of the droogs in the 1971 Kubrick/Warner Bros. film 'A Clockwork Orange'; accompanied by a signed letter of donation from Julian Senior. Upon it's release, A Clockwork Orange was accused of being an orgy of gratuitous violence which glamorised brutality. Kubrick went to great lengths to answer the critics and explain the reasoning behind the film and despite all the criticism, A Clockwork Orange went on to be nominated for 4 Academy Awards and 7 BAFTAs. The 'bovver boots' and braces worn by Alex and his gang of droogs echoed the skinhead style of the late 1960s. The boots play an integral role in the scenes of violence in the film, most notably, during Alex's rendition of Singin' In The Rain which is punctuated by kicks to Frank Alexander [Patrick Magee] as his wife is raped. Provenance: Christies 'National Film & Television School' Auction, December 2001. (2 items)
