Dame Nellie Melba: George V Silver porringer and cover, engraved inside lid 'Wishing Simon all happiness & good luck from his Godmother Nellie Melba. 20 April 1921'. Porringer and lid both hallmarked with Britannia standard mark for Sidney Bellamy Harman of London, and body engraved with Birch family crest. Provenance: Lady Susan Yorke was the daughter of the 7th Early of Hardwicke. She married Augustus Fitzclarence in 1910, he died in 1916 and she subsequently married Wyndham Birch in 1920. Lady Susan was an intimate friend of Dame Nellie Melba and accompanied her on many tours in Australia, America, Britain and Europe until the birth of her only son Simon Birch. Dame Nellie Melba was the Godmother to this son
