A 19th century Maori flax karawai karure (flax cloak) century 1840, with spaced whatu ahe rua (two-pair weft twining) of alternating rows of natural and black ahe, 6 mm apart. From the gate pa region in Tauranga. Unravelling decorative threads. in poor condition, needs restoration. Found underneath a house near gate Pa. 124 x 110 cm.
