Description:
A Victorian sterling silver presentation trowel, retailed by Henry Steiner, and made by Richard Martin and Ebenezer Hall, London 1877, the blade engraved 'Presented to Mrs F E Bucknall By Her Loving Husband on the Occasion of Laying the Foundation Stone of Estcourt House 31st August 1882' surrounded by engraved palm abd vine leaves, the ivory handle carved with stiff leaves and seeds, marked 'H. Steiner/Adelaide', 30 cm length. note: Estcourt House, near the beach at Grange, South Australia was built by Adelaide businessman, Frederick Estcourt Bucknall in 1883. Due to bankruptcy he lost the property in 1886. The new owners, Australian Mutual Provident Society (AMP) sold it in 1892 to the James Brown Memorial Trust who opened it as a convalescent home and in 1931 it became a convalescent home for children
