English silver double handled Shooting trophy, the baluster turned body heavily embossed with floral motifs and oval cartouches, the centre bearing inscription: Geelong artillery/ Shooting Comp/ Won by/ Capt. L. R. Cole, the verso with raised figure of an army rifle man in mid shot, all raised on circular spreading foot. Marks: partial marks under foot - assuming Birmingham C1869. Weight: 345 grams. Height 20.5 cm. Provenance: Vizard Foundation.2001 Geelong Exhibition no 54. Notes: 'Geelong Formed Two Artillery Units From 1863-1872, Which Was Succeeded in 1873 By the Geelong Corps Rwar' which was finally disbanded in 1883. This date range has been used to attribute the cup to a Birmingham manufacture. (2001 catalogue pp83)
