Description:
'The Cricketers' Register: containing the scores of the principal matches played in Victoria during the season 1863-4; also an account of the second visit of the all England eleven' edited by W.J.Hammersley (Melbourne, 1864). Original wrappers loose and spine damaged. Pp.168-170 with diagrams of field-placings, 9 wood-engraved illustrations on three end leaves, advertisements. Fair condition, with some minor foxing. An exceptional rarity, the second and last year of issue under this title, the first being in 1863, though the Cricketers' Register was actually a continuation of the Victorian Cricketer's Guide. This issue is of special interest for including an account of 'The second Visit of the All England Eleven to Australia' (pp.109-153), the editor, W.J. Hammersley, was a well-known cricketer who captained Victoria in earlier years and had played for Cambridge against Oxford in 1847. Very rare. Padwick 3366 (wrongly calling for 178 rather than 179p).
