Description:
An Important Chinese Limestone Figure of a Bodhisattva, 557-618, Northern Zhou/Sui Dynasty. Standing wearing a pleated dhoti and a cape over the shoulders, draped in long necklaces and beaded chains drawn through a central ring at the waist, the stone with a dark patina, tiny traces of red pigment, probably from Shanxi province. 80 cm high, mounted on a metal base. Provenance: Melbourne private collection; acquired by a Professor of Art History in Italy and brought to Melbourne in the early 1970?s, and passed on by descent to the current owner.
