A fabulous large Chinese Ming blue and white fishbowl, 1522-1590, Jiajing/early Wanli period. Boldly painted with eight large geese flying above lotus, a band of eight peony flowers at the mouth, eight auspicious symbols on the flat rim, stylised waves above the unglazed base. 31 cm high, 50 cm diameter. Provenance: R and V Tregaskis, Sydney, 15/10/1998. See S. Marchant & Sons, London, 2005, cat no 4, p12 for an Imperial Jiajing fish bowl with dragon motif
