Description: Superb Kotiate, finely carved in a formal manner the beautifully symmetrical blade offers a complex triple haehae and pakati surface design which reflects the work of a master carver. The shaft hold a finely worn patina suggesting great age and use. A powerfully resolved manaia form guards the Kotiate and its master. Legend has it that a chief carrying such weapon would often challenge the opposing chief to a single combat. The first to achieve three blows won the duel and often the war. Height 33 cm. Width 12 cm. Depth 2.8 cm.
