Description:
Brass locomotive front number plate, '406', large oval 59 x 37 cm. This plate was bought from the Sar Islington Workshops inthe early 1970s, the plate is in 'Off Loco' condition, in that it has a few knocks and dings. (the 400-class Beyer-Garratt 4-8-2 + 2-8-4 locomotives were built in France for the South Australian Railways to work the narrow 3' 6' gauge ore trains from the broken Hill mines to port Pirie, the first of the ten locomotives was delivered in mid- 1953. All were withdrawn by 1969. '406' was the last steam engine to be placed in service on the South Australian Railways)
