Description:
A large 'Longquan' celadon dragon dish, early Ming Dynasty, with shallow rounded sides and everted rim, the interior moulded with a scaly dragon pursuing a 'Flaming Pearl' beside cloud scrolls in a central medallion within a continuous band of scrolling waves carved around the cavetto, all beneath the bluish-green glaze 37.5 cm. Compare with a similar dish illustrated in Southeast Asian ceramic Society, Chinese Celadons and other related wares in Southeast Asia, Singapore June 1979, cat no 169, pl 128 and 129 and on the wrappers; and another illustrated by Gompertz, Chinese celadon wares, pl 107
