Rare & beautiful Heberley 18th century Maori wood & 18ct. Gold pipe. Carved tattooed faces with tiny paua shell eyes on the bowl. 'Kia Ora' is carved on the underside of the pipe, the gold bands are marked 18ct. And hallmarked G.P. (maybe George Pretkethly - New Zealand jeweller and goldsmith). Also marked Christeson, who was a Wellington tobacconist, the carver is Tom Heberley. Length 12.5 cm.
