An Important Sketch Book by E.A. Hoare ‘Artist on Board’ Ss Tongariro, December 1887 to March 1888. The book contains two ‘Tongariro’ envelopes addressed to Mrs Hoare, approx 31 watercolours, 30 pencil/ink sketches, 11 photographs and various dried ferns. Most of the watercolours and sketches depict NZ scenes, but also represented are views of Hobart, S. Africa, Teniriffe, Santa Cruz etc. The watercolours/sketches are well annotated and offer some unique historical perspectives
