A Kagamibuta netsuke depicting Kanyu, unsigned, 19th century with a smooth ivory bowl and inset shakudo and akagane (copper), the plaque depicting Kanyu with sword unsheathed and an attendant. Width 4.2 cm. Note: Kanyu is one of the three Heroes of Han and deified as the god of war in 1594, and put on the same level as Confucius as an object of worship in 1878, Kanyu began life as a seller of bean curd
