Description:
1959 Jaguar XK150 Drophead CoupeRegistration no. Not RegisteredChassis no. S838604Engine no. VA1348-8, Jaguar's legendary Xk sports car range reached its final flowering in 1957 with the launch of the XK150, a progressive development of the XK120 and XK140. The XK150 retained the same basic chassis, engine and transmission of its predecessors but benefited from an entirely new, more modern body providing increased interior space and improved visibility courtesy of a single-piece wrap-around windscreen. The new model's main talking point was the use of Dunlop disc brakes; at last the Xk had stopping power to match its prodigious straight-line speed. Introduced in the spring of 1957, the XK150 was available at first only in fixed-head and drophead coupÚ forms, the open version not appearing until the following year. The drophead coupe was a particularly versatile combination, with occasional rear seats and a fully lined hood. The updated aluminium and leather facia may have modernised the interior but it retained enough of the Old World charm Jaguar have long been famous for. At 190bhp, the 3.4-litre engine's maximum power output was identical to that of the XK140, so performance was little changed. The 'Special Equipment' and 'S' versions had 210 and 250bhp respectively, while overdrive and automatic transmission were options, as was a dual exhaust system. 'The Jaguar XK150 is undeniably one of the world's fastest and safest cars. It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable. As with most cars, there are a few body details which could be improved, but we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money,' concluded The Autocar. Built in December 1959, this superbly restored XK150 Drophead Coupe began life as an American market car. As part of the body-off rebuild, the car has been sensitively upgraded to provide reliable, strong performance combined with a more relaxing, comfortable driving experience. Repainted in the traditional British Racing Green, fully re-trimmed in Connolly leather upholstery and the appearance beautifully set off by 72-spoke wire wheels, this XK150 is equally stunning from the outside and behind the wheel. Currently registered in Queensland, the car will be sold unregistered.
