First English cricket Tour to Australia 1861-62: Cravat pin with bat and ball over cricket stumps, engraved on reverse 'Presented by Hon.G.Coppin Mlc, 1862', in original presentation case. 'The English tour had been sponsored by Melbourne hoteliers Felix Spiers and Christopher pond, They had originally tried to bring the English novelist Charles Dickens to Australia for ?10,000 on one of his popular lecture Tours, but the great man failed to reply to their overtures. Instead, on the advice of the greatest entrepeneur (among many other things) of the day, George Coppin, they turned their minds and budgets to a cricket tour'.
