18th century part of an ancient whale bone hand club (Patu Pararoa). It has probably been buried in a swamp or submerged at sea. This piece is the blade end with four holes drilled at a later stage, having probably been adapted for another use. If complete would have been an impressive size club. Length 16 cm. Width 12 cm
