Walnut richly carved dower chest by well known early Tasmania carver Ellen Nora Payne (1865-1962) carved inscription on inside of lid reads 'To Philip Burgoyne Hudson in Memory of Alan Field Payne and of a friendship formed on the battlefields of France 1917-1925' Alan Field was Ellen Paynes son. Philip Burgoyne Hudson (AIF Lieutenant 4th Australian Pioneer Battery) was one of Melbourne's premier architects (Shrine of Remembrance National War Memorial, Geelong Grammar School Chapel).
