Description:
World War I New Zealand Diary, Documents and medals of 23408 Rifleman John Moule of the New Zealand rifle Brigade. Included is a distressed leather wallet (with a note that it was purchased from the canteen a few minutes before the building was destroyed by German 'Roplanes)', postcards, a silk cushion cover, a silk card, his World War I service medals and large numbered RSA badge, discharge certificate, pay book and his field bible, the diary, in a very tight script details his training, embarkation, travels, service, wounding and recovery first in the UK and then in rotorua at the convalescent home. Whilst recovering in the UK Moule was able to visit family, clearly a highlight, the diary records the monotony of war as well as lighter moments. John Moule enlisted at Trentham on 9 Feb 1916. He was discharged due to wounds on 7 Aug 1917
