Description:
1930 Sunbeam 16 Hp Chassis no. 5755KEngine no. 6005J One of the oldest and most respected of English Marques, Sunbeams were always one of the best quality and had a fine reputation established before World War I for competition successes. Sir Henry Segrave was knighted after his successful attempts on the outright world speed record on both land and water between 1922 and 1927 and held 5 International records driving the Sunbeam Golden Arrow and later with the famous boat Miss England II.In the 20s and 30s Sunbeam continued to produce the excellent cars for which they were famous, comparing favourably with the Rolls-Royce 20 Hp even in 16 Hp form. The larger Sunbeams included the famous twin-cam 3-Litre sports car of very advanced design, in 1925 it came second in the 24 hour race at Le Mans, despite having been damaged during the race. This example of the 16 Hp was the subject of a full restoration and completed in 1990, during which missing parts were acquired and plans were made for the new body, modelled on a 20HP Tourer in South Australia, the interior being copied from a Sunbeam owned by Sir Gordon Taylor, Kingsford-Smith's co-pilot. A higher ratio rear axle was fitted in the intent of more relaxed cruising. We are informed that it has had a recent full service and represents an excellent opportunity to enjoy vintage motoring at a moderate outlay together with the advantages of self energising four wheel brakes and sensitive steering for which these cars were noted.
