Tba First exhibited on a Fiat 2100 chassis at the 1960 Turin Show, the Ghia-bodied 2300 Coupe entered production the following autumn. The model was built in two types, 2300 and 2300s, the latter benefiting from a more powerful (135bhp) version of Fiat's six-cylinder, overhead-valve engine, and remained in production until 1968.Fiat was one of many major car producers that benefited from Ghia's styling expertise at this time. After World War II, the company had provided the training ground for many of Italy's rising-star designers - Michelotti, Boano and Frua all making a contribution to its continuing success - and collaborated with leading manufacturers to produced memorable models such as the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, Lancia Aurelia B20 and Coupe versions of the Fiat 1500 and 2300.This right-hand drive Fiat 2300 coupe was sold new in Brisbane by Dominion Motors, the Queensland Fiat distributors at the time. The car was taken off the road in the late 1970s, after running into the back of its owner's wife's Morris Minor, and remained in storage until the late 1990s when it was acquired by the immediately preceding owner. The latter commenced repair of the vehicle's front end before selling the car to the current vendor, who completed the work and had the body re-sprayed. Mechanical refurbishment has included overhauling the brakes with new boosters and master cylinder/caliper kits and since its purchase by the owner in 2008 from Bonhams & Goodman, it has undergone preparation for rallying in Australia including registration in Nsw, carburetor overhaul, replaced fuel pump, drivebelts, clutch slave cylinder and other expenses. The car is said to run and drive well with everything working as it should.Finished in red with tan interior, this Fiat 2300 Coupe is presented in good condition throughout and with only a little additional attention to cosmetic detail would be a truly 1st class example of this classic Carrozzeria Ghia design.
