Description:
1978 Ford Xc Cobra Chassis no. 00107Engine no. JG65UM00107K Registration no. COB107expires 16/5/2010 While it is true to say that today the Xa/Xb/Xc hardtops are classically desirable cars, at the time they proved to be hard sales for Ford, as the Australian motorist has always preferred four door cars to coupes, even when it is a high performance car. The Xc Cobra started life as another of Ford Australia's marketing ploys. With sales of the Xc Hardtop continuing to drop Ford were concerned that they would be stuck with a large quantity of body shells and parts when the Xc was phased out and the all new Xd Falcon was introduced late in 1978. At the time, a young American was working at the post of Assistant Managing Director under Sir Brian Inglis. This young executive suggested that the body shells be assembled and sold as the 'Cobra'. It is believed that the idea was initially rejected by executives at the company until a message from Edsel Ford II pushed the project into motion.Just 400 Xc Cobras were created between 1978 and 1979 in a variety of engines, transmissions and additional options, though all cars were White with blue stripes with the blue first and then had the white overlaid. Cobras #32 though 200 were all fitted with a 351ci Cleveland V8 and came with four wheel disc brakes and limited slip axles, a choice of automatic or 4 speed transmissions and the option of Air Conditioning, power steering and power windows.Cobra #107, a matching numbers car, comes with all the available options and log books. This car is in well maintained condition and ready to enjoy on the open road.
