Description:
A Pair of Sevres plates painted by Jean-Jacques Pierre French, Circa 1765 With a large group of flowers to the centre including a spray of plums, the green ground border with three further flower groups within rococo palm leaf borders and a continuous flower garland. Crossed -L-s and O, date code for 1767 Artist mark P, for Pierre 25 cm wide These plates are apparently from an important service, ordered by several important European families. One such service can be seen in the Quirinal Palace, Rome, three cheese dishes are in the Pitti palace, and a plate is in the British Museum, London. ref. Dawson, French Porcelain in the British Museum #111 for this service. Another interesting link is a service ordered in 1771 by Henri- Bertin, the Court Contr_leur-G_n_ral des Finances who in 1767 assumed direct responsibility for the Sevres factory. 6 further plates were sold at Sothebys, London, 2 April 2003.
