A magnificent Chinese export black and gold lacquered sewing box, circa 1840, the rectangular box with brass carry handles and chamfered corners with cushion cut lid heavily patterned in two coloured golds depicting Buddhist symbols and figural scenes complete with original interior compartments and secondary drawer all mounted on four carved wooden feet. Height 17 cm. Width 36 cm. Depth 26 cm.
