Historical silver presentation trowel, with horn handle and engraved in the Victorian manner 'Presented to His Excellency Sir William Robinson GcmG to Lay the Foundation stone of the Reformatory the gift of the Hon. E. R. Belilios cmg to the Colony of Hong Kong, 29th January 1898'. Sir William Robinson (see lot 472). Emanual Raphael Belilios 1837-1905, member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council and a great philanthropist. He donated $25,000 for a new building for the central school for girls in 1893. Subsequently a three story building was erected between Hollywood Road and Gough Street. In 1946 the school was renamed the Belilios Public school in his honour. Among his many charitable works are included one third of the total costs of Alice Memorial Hospital, later to become the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, as well as an abundance of scholarships for needy students.
