Unpublished collection of over 60 original photos of the National Patriotic Fund YMCA Cinema in the Western Desert during World War II. These are the personal photos of the driver, John Edward Meikle. They show the Ford vehicle of the YMCA in the Western Desert during World War II. This collection is made more remarkable in that the vehicle was recently fully restored and very few images dedicated to this unforgotten but hugely important volunteer service was made. The National Patriotic Fund greatly assisted the YMCA to provide this canteen even though many wrongly thought it was largely funded by the Ymca and that the New Zealand Government was doing little for the wellbeing of the troops. Several different canteens and mobile theatre vehicles are shown, the driver obviously working with a few vehicles
