Description:
1971 Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 3.5 Chassis no. 109056-22-005058 Engine no. 116981-22-004687 Reg: XTK-474 exp: 08/11/2007. This car is the W109 300 SEL 3.5, of which 9483 were manufactured between 1969 and 1972. The W109 cars share many parts with the cheaper W108 sedans, but have some important differences. The biggest difference is the air suspension rather than steel springs, a feature that improved the ride significantly. Other differences were chrome window frames on the four doors, chrome sill treads, leather upholstery, electric windows, wool velour carpet, and in a few cars, burl walnut timbers. The service booklet (supplied with the car) shows the first owner to be Yorkstar Motors Pty Ltd, of 88 William Street, Sydney, perhaps indicating that the car was a demonstrator, or used by a Yorkstar executive. It was registered BMQ935, with Stock Number 7532. It is fitted with the factory build tags, the Stock Number Sticker, and the Australian Compliance plate. Servicing was carried out by the authorised Mercedes-Benz dealers in Dubbo until 1978, when the car was sold to Mr C B Swan. . The odometer reads 66,000 miles, but it is, in fact, 166,000 miles. We are advised by the vendor that the car is offered for sale with an Owner's Manual, Parts Manual, Air Conditioning System, Electric Wiring Diagram. While the paintwork is in very good condition, the leather seats have been mistreated, and they now let the interior down. Cream sheepskin seat-covers have been fitted to cover them. The car is also fitted with the desirable stacked headlights, which were an option on Australian delivered 300 SEL 3.5's, the air suspension is fully operational, and is very reliable. The front shock absorbers have just been replaced with new Bilstein units, which are unique to this model at a cost of $488 per pair plus fitting. The radiator has just been removed, cleaned and pressure. tested. The engine bay and undercarriage have been steam cleaned. All greasing points have been lubricated, and the engine and transmission oils have been changed. The original unused Dunlop 7.35 H/14 (185 H/14) cross ply spare tyre is still in the boot, as is the jack, and a tool roll with Mercedes spanners
