Gem-set and diamond Salamander brooch, modelled as a salamander with collet-set cabochon turquoise eyes, the textured body claw-set at intervals with rectangular-cut green tourmaline, the feet pave-set with brilliant-cut diamonds, the diamonds together weighing approximately 0.24 carats, mounted in 18ct gold and platinum, length 55 mm, width 39 mm, signed Jean Schlumberger, Tiffany for Tiffany & Co., notes the legendary French jewellery designer Jean Schlumberger was appointed vice President of Tiffany in 1956. Through exceptional draughtsmanship and remarkable imagination, Schlumberger translated the inspiration he drew from the flora and fauna of the natural world into the vibrant and whimsical jewels that are his trademark.
