Description:
A rare St Petersburg porcelain cup and saucer, circa 1812-1815, the cup decorated in bas relief with an unglazed portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte, after Bertrand Andrieu (1761-1822). St Petersburg III mark in underglaze blue underside of cup and saucer, with numeral 8 also stamped to the saucer, the cup 9 cm high, the saucer 13.5 cm diameter. Other Notes: made to celebrate the defeat of the French in 1812 and the war of the sixth Coalition (1813-1815), condition: overall appearance good, one small chip to lip of the cup, and one area when a previous chip has been ground down
