A very rare Len Castle inverted volcano, moulded from earthenware in an inverted volcano form. The exterior has a rough grey texture and pock marks. The interior has a alkaline blue glaze. This rare blue glazed inverted volcano is one of only three made. Castle (1924 - 2011) is one the most recognisable and well versed figures in New Zealand applied arts. His spectacular forms, often taking inspiration from geothermal activityand landscapes, revolutionised studio pottery, height 25 cm, width 79 cm, depth 7 cm
