Fine Russian silver and gold vesta case, marked 84, St Petersburg, maker rubbed (possibly Aw for August Wendt), c.1870, of rounded rectangular form with all over reeded finish, the cover set with large 'Mn' monogram beneath a crown in silver, flanked by four smaller gold monograms, the underside set with four gold and five silver monograms set beneath crowns, with further gold monograms set to the ends, the hinged cover opening to reveal a match compartment and striker to underside of cover, with braided cotton rope twist strap and silver safety chain, total weight 91.8gm, 7 cm x 4 cm x 2.5 cm.
