A Japanese lacquer Suzuribako, Momoyama (1568-1600) or early Edo period (1603-1868), the exterior of the lid decorated in sparse nashiji with flocks of flying chidori (plovers) the inside of the lid lacquered with vines of grapes and leaves in hiramaki-e hanging over a bamboo fence, the interior ita (baseboard) lacquered with sakura (plum) flowers, fitted with a suzuri (ink-grinding stone) and a copper / gilt circular suiteki (water dropper), 4 cm high, 21 cm wide, 22.5 cm deep
