A Japanese Seto blue and white bowl by Kato Gosuke IV (1839-1912); Meiji period (1868-1912); of rare form with strongly gadrooned cavetto, finely decorated in classical Chinese manner to the interior with a landscape and boatman, to the exterior with a hand painted 'Stencilled fabric' pattern of scrolling flowers. Eight character mark reading 'Nihon Kato Gosuke' to the base. 8 cm high, 30 cm diameter
