A good and rare 18th century taiaha (fighting staff), with finely carved rauponga spirals on arero (tongue). Serrated paua shell eyes. The collar with ochre dyed wool. Tapering shaft with rounded end. Provenance: mark Eglington tribal Art, Jerry Bock collection, Hawaii, Christies Paris. Christies label affixed to the blade, 210 cm length.
