Stunning French Louis XVI tortoiseshell and lace fan, c.1780, the tortoiseshell guards beautifully incised and gilded with butterflies, opening to sixteen sticks with gilt and coloured decoration of birds perched in trees, the sticks set with a lace panel painted with a central scene of musicians and singers in interior scenes, surrounded by applied spangles on a lace ground, with loop carry handle, height 39 cm.
