Elegant & superb quality walnut & mahogany writing table by Collinson & Lock, London centre drawer flanked by four further drawers raised on elegant turned and carved legs united by box shaped stretchers the insert leather top of hand stained cow hide with gilt & Blind Tooling. This writing table bears makers stamp to the centre drawer 'Collinson & Lock, London, 5995'. The locks are stamped 'Nettlefold's patent Lever' (Birmingham & London). The Firm of Collinson & Lock was established in London in the third quarter of the 19th century with the Principle Partnership F G Collinson & G J Lock. The company quickly achieved both commercial Success & a leading position in the field of design. Influential designers of the 'Art Movement' including Te Collcut, J Moyr-Smith & Stephen Webb were employed by the company & E W Godwin was held on a retainer to produce exclusive designs for the company from 1872, height 76 cm, width 107 cm, depth 52 cm
