Description:
An Inaba Cloisonne Co. cloisonne vase, c.1960, squat ovoid shape, decorated with two koi carp on a pale celadon ground. Gold plated rim and foot. With original promotional brochure, annotated 1961. With wooden stand. Height 18 cm. Until its closure in the 1990s, the Inaba Company of Kyoto was an important survivor of the Golden Age. Founded in 1886 by Inaba Isshin, a former samurai who began working in enamels in 1875, the company's output was eclectic and combined designs and techniques used by both Kyoto and Nagoya makers. Following the demolition of their workshop their archives, together with tools and enamelling materials, were preserved in the Museum of Kyoto.
