Description:
A Japanese Satsuma vase, signed Kinkozan, Meiji period circa 1890, of globular form, the body of the vase exhibits a very fine crackle, the decoration of overglaze enamelling and gilding of superior quality featuring a long and detailed Sankinkotai procession amongst mist and clouds with neck and base decoration of flowers and repeated geometric patterns, height 30 cm. Other Notes: Sankinkotai was a system of compulsory biennial attendance the Edo shogunate enforced on the powerful daimyo of Japan. Attended by a suitable number of samurai retainers, the daimyo made their way from their provincial homes to the capital. This theme was a popular subject on Satsuma wares.
