After Jean Pierre Cortot (French, 1787-1843), bronze figure of Pheidippides of Marathon, early 20th century, cast by the Ferdinand Barbedienne foundry, the figure modelled in the manner of the Capitoline Dying Gaul, his cloak, shield and sword beneath him on the ground, his raised right hand clutching a laurel, signed 'Cortot' and 'F.
